The Gift
So I wanted to give my brother a gift. A gift he’ll remember me by, something that’ll be of use. A lot of people say cards, nice poetry, handmade crafts, etc have that sort of everlasting impact. As for me, I found it to be complete rubbish. I honor good advice and good words, don’t get me wrong. Nor am I materialistic, but if you’re going to give a gift, then it should be worthwhile.
Anyhoozle, I fell in this mess as to what to give him. Knowing my brother, he really doesn’t express any want or need. Though, I did know he had a slight interest in an iPhone 3GS. I had to purchase it from craiglist, a risky ordeal. I’ve never made a purchase from craiglist, nor did I ever expect to meet a random bloke from the internet and perform such a task. To me, it made me feel as if I were doing some sort of drug deal. Mind you, I was doing something completely legal.
So anyhow, I emptied my “piggy bank”, I guess you can say. I’m really not the richest fellow on the block, but I understand that there is compensation from invisible means. I seek blessing in this world and mercy in the next, since I do believe in the afterlife.
For some reason, I never really felt a sense of regret. People sometimes have apprehensions when purchasing expensive gifts… or is it just me? But this time around, I realized I only have one sibling, and if I really wanted to prove my love, I needed something beyond words.
So an iPhone 3GS it was.
My style, of course, has to be unique. I purchased a relatively large box, wherein I put a pair of shoes in a shoebox and two new towels. In one shoe, I put the iPhone chargers and in the other, I put the actual phone.
He first opened the towels and then opened the shoebox, finally. The first shoe had the chargers, which was when I Said “Well, I figured you’d be getting the iPhone soon, so you might need those.” When he opened the next shoe, his reaction completely changed. I’m sure he was shocked.
And praises be to Allah the Almighty, I’ve never felt greater satisfaction in gift-giving in my entire life.
In addition to the iPhone, I did write a poem. I’m striving to be a writer, so it’s expected of me to do such a thing. I’ll post the poem separately, since it has a different meaning behind it.
