I do NOT smoke! | Basic Etiquettes of Business

So I drive in to AM/PM (Gas Station) with my friend because he wanted a cup of coffee before class. As we enter the lot, we see our teacher’s car pull into a parking spot. It was an awkward experience, but he’s a chill teacher so it wasn’t all that bad.

As we stood in line, I told my friend he poured too much SUGAR in his coffee. The cashier heard me say “cigarettes” and asked “Oh, did you want cigarettes again?” I was very perplexed, and said “Again?” And he said “Yeah, you came here last week for cigarettes. I remember it was you. Same beard, same white dress…”I quickly glance over at my teacher, who was smiling to himself behind us in line.

“You definitely have the wrong guy,” I say.

“No, no. I’m sure it’s you!”

Honestly, I don’t smoke and I found his insistence as a cashier to be very rude and inappropriate. It was a hilarious situation, especially with my teacher standing directly behind us the entire time. However, it just comes to show the lack of decency in the world. Especially when it comes to customers, you’d think they’d be more polite.

Eventually, I exited the store. My teacher obviously didn’t believe it was me who bought the cigarettes but we figured it was someone from our school. Either that or the cashier was making up the entire story.

In conclusion, I don’t consider it to be sucking up when you are being courteous to customers. That’s something expected when you’re doing business with anyone. Decency in business can go a long way. This is just a minor, humorous situation but the lesson can be derived for bigger things in life.

Etiquette is the key to success, IMO.

Booth Standing / Store Clerks

As you may have noticed, I haven’t updated my blog in quite a while. Basically, there was a major convention taking place in my area and I wanted to advertise a couple of my websites there. I had my own booth there, which was actually an experience on its own.

We all go to the grocery, gas station, and other stores. Little we do acknowledge the hard work each of these laborers endure each day. I’ve never had an official job before so standing at the booth was a learning experience. For myself, it was my own business that I was advertising so I had an additional incentive and passion to stand there for long hours, talking to people and signing deals.

The Unwritten Code and Ethics of Business | Part One: E-mails Vs Letters

I wouldn’t consider myself a professional in the field of business or marketing, but it is something I hope to pursue in the near future. I’ll simply share a few pointers now and then regarding business for the greater benefit.

First of all, we all receive spam mail inevitably. As annoying as it gets to click the checkboxes for deletion, we routinely do it every day. Otherwise, if the e-mail is from a friend, it holds little importance such that we skim through it and send a couple words in response. Sometimes we even have a list of standard responses we provide clients and employees. These types of communications are emotionless, like talking to those automated phone systems. They try to delay your interaction with a living being for as long as possible.

Observe Your Peers

I’m going to write this post using business as the primary example. There is always good to be derived from every source. We cannot let our pride overtake us in that aspect, or we shall never be able to succeed. Remember that everyone in this world has something to offer us and never undermine what you learn as it can serve a purpose one day.

In the world of business, this is quite relevant and a key to success. You observe those who are at the same level as you and see how they function as an organization. What makes them who they are? What are their key features? What is unique about them? When you gather that information, you may rephrase them in your own organization. The most successful and preferable method would be, however, to use your notes as an idea to create something unique with your own business. If you really do not have a creative mind, attempt to collaborate the ideas from various peer organizations and start yourself from there. It’s like writing. Once you get the first sentence down, it begins to flow.
